Frequently Asked Questions

Job Seekers

    • Does it cost anything to sign up with SHiFT?

No, SHiFT is free to job seekers.

    • How does SHiFT work?

Job seekers set up a free account and then create a personal profile. You'll be asked to rate yourself on a variety of criteria. You will also select jobs in SHiFT that you are qualified for and interested in "matching" with. Based on your responses, you'll be "matched" with jobs with a similar rating from participating businesses. Participating companies will view their "matches" and candidate information (skills, experience, etc.) and from there will determine if and when to contact you for the next step in the hiring process.

    • How do I get started?

SHiFT is specifically for job seekers with disabilities and companies who are interested in hiring them. One of the first requirements in setting up your profile is agreeing to the Disclosure of Disability/Privacy and Confidentiality. You must check the box that you self-identify as a person with a disability and you also must agree to the Terms of Service to proceed.

    • How often can I update my profile, resume and other information?

You can update your personal profile information at any time.

    • Who can see my personal information on SHiFT?

Only when your matching criteria matches with a participating business can they view your personal profile and resume.

    • Can a family member or friend help me set up my profile information and have access to my account?

Absolutely. You can share your login information when you sign up so it's easy to access your account in the future.

    • What if I forget my login information?

If you forget your username or password, go to the Login page (http://shift.gkcbln.org/login) and click 'Forgot username?' or 'Forgot password?' You will be asked for the email address associated with your account. Once you've entered your email address, you will receive an email from SHiFT with the information you've requested.

    • What if I don't have a resume?

It's not a requirement for you to upload a resume. You can set up your profile, complete the matching criteria and even be matched with a job without a resume when you add your skills and experience in the current and past jobs section. However, for some jobs that require more extensive skills and expertise, uploading a resume will be very important.

    • How will I know if I match with a job?

When you complete and save your matching criteria section, SHiFT will automatically show you the posted jobs you match with and the level of match (i.e., 100%, 75%, 50%). When you have a match, you will also receive an email at the email address you provide when creating your profile. You must check the box that you are interested in the matched position before the company is notified of your match and interest.

Businesses

  • What is the cost to participate in SHiFT?

Great news. All business users receive a 30-day free trial upon signing up. When the free trial expires, a business membership with the Greater Kansas City Business Leadership Network (GKCBLN) is required for ongoing access. You can choose from five different levels of membership based on your organization’s interests and needs. For details, click here.

  • How does SHiFT work?

Job seekers set up a free account, create a personal profile and rate themselves based on a variety of matching criteria. Companies set up a business account and can invite others on their team to access the system. You determine the matching criteria ranges for each job posted. When a job seeker matches with your job, both of you will be automatically notified. Participating companies will view their "matches" and candidate information (skills, experience, etc.) and from there will determine if and when to contact the job seeker for the next step in the hiring process. If you opt to connect with the job seeker, you will initially contact them via SHiFT messaging.

  • How do I get started?

SHiFT is specifically for companies interested in hiring job seekers with disabilities. Job seekers who have created profiles and/or posted their resumes on this site are voluntarily disclosing they have some sort of documented disability. One of the first requirements in setting up your company profile is agreeing to the Disclosure of Disability/Privacy and Confidentiality. You must check this box that you agree to treat all applicants from SHiFT in a nondiscriminatory manner and agree to abide by all provisions of the applicable federal, state and local laws. Secondly, you must agree to the Terms of Service to proceed.

  • How do I set up my company profile and post jobs?

The initial SHiFT business subscriber may invite others within their organization to access the site and use a single business code so all reporting is consolidated and provided under the same company ID.

  • Does SHiFT scrub my open positions and post them on the site?

No, SHiFT is not a scrubbing site. Because of the unique nature of connecting with job seekers with disabilities, you must set up a profile and description for each position. Or, you can set up a general profile that is applicable to most of your posted positions and then add the job description details for each position. When you have a job seeker match and that person has indicated interest in your open position, you can initiate contact via SHiFT messaging and send the candidate a link to your company's website or applicant tracking system.

  • How will I know when a job seeker matches with one of my posted positions?

When you complete and save your matching criteria section and job description, SHiFT will automatically show you job seeker matches and the level of match.

  • How long will my job be posted on SHiFT?

The lifetime of your job posting is based on your GKCBLN membership level. If you do not purchase a membership by the end of your 30-day free trial, your business account will be suspended, but data will not be deleted.
